Ducks in a Row: The First Steps at Hens & Honey Ridge
It may not look like much to you, but it looks like a dream in progress for us.
Hello friends!
Matt and I are so excited to share our new project currently in the works—Hens & Honey Ridge. Tucked away in our little corner of Cape Breton, the Ridge is shaping up to be a peaceful nature retreat with lean-to cabins, private decks, a cozy sauna, firepit for the evenings, and hidden forest trails—the perfect spot for a weekend escape or countryside getaway.
This blog will be our little diary of progress, sharing behind-the-scenes stories, photos, and updates on each cabin, the apitherapy hut, and all the cozy corners as they come to life.
Make sure to follow us over on Instagram and Facebook under @Hensandhoneyfarm to see stories and more as we go.
Here is the cabin design. You’ll have so much natural light inside and the deck gives you a covered area to enjoy that porch view in any weather, and an uncovered area to enjoy the sunshine.
Here’s where we’re at so far:
We’ve had the engineer out to figure out where the well and septic system will go, the first cabin plans are finalized, the driveway is in, and we’re clearing only the minimal number of trees we need to.
We’ve drawn out a layout for the entire project—eventually there will be three cabins plus the extras—but this year we’re focusing on getting the main cabin built. We’re also adding the apitherapy hut and the sauna, and no, hot tubs aren’t off the table… we just haven’t made a final call yet.
Our house is currently a storage unit for all of the appliances and furniture I bought during the Black Friday sales, so it will be great to get this going so we can have our own space back.
That all being said the ducks are in a row. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the weather to cooperate a bit before we dive into the real dirty work.
I can try to explain how amazing this view is at sunrise, but you will just have to come see for yourself.
If you’ll be looking for a relaxing getaway in Cape Breton, a peaceful nature retreat, or a countryside escape, stay tuned—you won’t want to miss the Ridge coming to life!
